The answer is simply by being the fantastic vehicle that it is. Ok, that sounds cheesy, but it is the truth. Anyone who has driven an Audi R8 knows this. But, if you don't believe us, you could always come check one out at Audi of Huntington for yourself. Now, back to the point at hand...

Every year, Elton John and his partner, David Furnish, host the White Tie and Tiara Ball in their home. The purpose of this event is to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) by hosting an auction. Everything sold that night carries a high value and noticeable prestige, but nothing could compare to the items that truly stole the shot: two Audi, chrome-finish R8 Spyders.

Of course, the one thing everyone wants to know is, how much did they go for? The first one went for an amazing 250,000 pounds ($399,225). Audi was amazed by the level of interest shown by the White Tie and Tiara Ball quests, so they decided to donate a second Spyder to be auctioned off as well. The second one sold more than double the first: 620,000 pounds ($990,078).

To give you some perspective on what this means: the lightweight supercar, fitted with a 535PS petrol engine and manual transmission is no cheap ride to begin with. It zips from 0-62 mph in about 4.1 seconds. However, it typically it carries a price tag of 117,710 ($187,971). So, it is easy to see why Audi was so amazed at the vehicle's performance in the auction. Don't worry though, at 363 E. Jericho Turnpike, Huntington Station, NY 11746, we promise not to auction off our Audis like that (unless of course, it is for an equally deserving cause).

Speaking on the gala, Jermey Hicks, Director, Audi UK, says, "Sir Elton John's fundraising ball really is a golden ticket event that is as glamorous as it is hugely effective in fundraising terms...We are absolutely delighted to have been instrumental in raising such a magnificent sum for Sir Elton John's charity. We couldn't, of course, have done so without the incredible generosity of Sir Elton's guests, to whom we owe an enormous vote of thanks."¹

The Elton John AIDS Foundation was founded in 1993. It managed over 14-million pounds in 15 countries around the world. The funds that are raised go to help thousands of men, women, and children fight AIDS by providing proper medical treatment, information/education sessions, nutrition, shelter, and emotional support. A large amount of the foundation's funds come from the White Tie and Tiara Ball. And, this is Audi's ninth year supporting the ball.
