Electric cars have many advantages, chief among them excellent economy without the reliance on gasoline. With the Audi e-tron concept, you get that efficiency, but also luxury looks, and performance that you'll find on many other new Audi vehicles here in the Huntington Station area. What's lacking, however, is the distinct Audi roar of the engine, and the thrill it gives its drivers. But, with the help of an electric piano, Audi set out to make sure the e-tron captured noises synonymous with its high-performing, German-engineered vehicles.

Aided by Rudolf Halbmier, a renowned sound expert, the new e-tron now has the sound to match its 300 horsepower engine that has a 0-60 sprint time of less than five seconds. Halbmier used an electric piano to emulate the rhythmic vibrations of an Audi engine as it accelerates, and even the subtle noises it generates as it idles. The result is astonishingly similar, and here at Audi of Huntington, we could hardly hear the difference.

The key to Halbmeir's compositions, he says is not to simply match the engine sound, but to make sure it embodies the emotional side of the driving experience as well. When put together, it creates not only the typical sound, but the good feeling we get hearing an Audi engine revved up.
